Ministries Commission
As members of Mennonite Church Saskatchewan, you have commissioned
us "to work in partnership with Mennonite Church Canada and
MCC Sask in the initiation, promotion, support and coordination
of mission, outreach and service programs in Saskatchewan and beyond."
Our efforts in fulfilling this responsibility this year is being
focused by the Vibrant Rural Churches project. Exciting stories
and activities have been uncovered and we are dreaming how we can
bring that vitality to all parts of MC Sask. We see how missional
thinking means talking to those outside our comfort levels and seeing
our churches change in who is part of who we are. It also means
creativity in being a community of believers in changing times.
You will hear more at the next annual meeting.
A second
focus in our Commission is considering what our relationships with
Aboriginal neighbors are and should be. We are working together
with MCC and Mennonite Church Canada and are planning dialogue times
to get to know our neighbors. What this will mean for us, we don't
know. Some of our members have significant experience in working
together, others are struggling. How will we be missional in these
relationships?
We
have also worked closely with Mennonite Church Canada in the development
of missional thinking in our congregations. We have been enriched,
challenged, encouraged and helped by the presence of Eric Olfert
in our midst. A number of our Saskatchewan church members have participated
in the missional education program sponsored by Mennonite Church
Canada. This year is a building year in mission and outreach, in
living and being missional, in supporting those that are faithfully
living out the Gospel.
